Probe Initiated Into Purported Cartel Drone Strike And Armed Attackers In Mexico

On Thursday, January 4, an alleged attack involving a drone and armed attackers was reported in Heliodoro Castillo community, Guerrero, Mexico.

State prosecutors in Guerrero verified to AP News that a “violent incident” took place in Buenavista settlement. José Filiberto Velázquez, the director of the adjacent Minerva Bello Center for human rights, mentioned that around 30 individuals were affected. He alleged that the attackers used drones and “explosive devices” to perpetrate an assault on the local residents.

As per a report byBarron’s is reporting that Mexican authorities are currently investigating the alleged assault using drones and firearms, which, as per the report, resulted in the demise of at least five individuals.

The prosecutor’s office in Guerrero has announced that they are currently probing the assault linked to the syndicate. Mentioning that the incident “arose from the confrontation between the illegal groups La Familia Michoacana and Los Tlacos, who are competing for influence in the region.”

Even though the specific count of casualties is still unknown, officials have disclosed the discovery of “burned skeletal remains” of five individuals in a vehicle that was impacted. Earlier, Velázquez authenticated these findings by confirming that there were “charred bodies” found in a car.

Velázquez commented at the scene, saying, “This conflict has instilled significant fear in numerous communities.”

Minerva Bello Center director, during a conversation with journalists, characterized, “It was an anticipated incident,” seemingly suggesting potential involvement of the syndicate. “Yesterday at midday, they initiated an assault on the community utilizing drones and explosive devices.”

“Several people lost their lives,” he proceeded, conveying reported information from the authorities. “Members of the Buenavista community were killed.”

Furthermore, he noted, “The [government’s] narrative of the events involves 30 individuals who were butchering a pig, at which point armed men emerged to carry out the killings,” he added.

According to AP News, the town of Buenavista in Guerrero is currently entangled in the conflict between two syndicates: La Familia Michoacana and the Jalisco New Generation cartels. Velázquez asserts that these instances of syndicate assaultsLately, there has been an increase in incidents in towns.

According to a report from Milenio, the 30 individuals affected by the attack consisted of men, women, and children. Allegedly, while “at a gathering” on Thursday, drones appeared overhead and hurled grenades at them. After this, according to the source, enforcers affiliated with the Nueva Familia Michoacana opened fire on them.

The report states that the victims of the attack are still missing. Additionally, while authorities did find five skulls from the burnt vehicle at the site, it is unclear whether those casualties are connected to this specific assault. Moreover, CBS reports the total number of fatalities to be six individuals.

Furthermore, Velázquez mentioned that six of the injured individuals traveled to Tetela del Rio in Guerrero city for medical attention.

According to CBS, the Guerrero prosecutor’s office released a statement.It was evident that the attack was linked to the competition between La Familia Michoacana and the Los Tlacos syndicate.

Moreover, Guerrero’s representative René Posselt agreed with the rivalry between the cartels. However, he questioned whether the assault specifically targeted the Buenavista community.

As per Velázquez, 80 inhabitants of Buenavista have fled the area. Meanwhile, Posslet stated that 170 military personnel and other officials are carrying out an investigation into the incident.
