Melissa Flores, the current titleholder of Miss Universe Mexico, has addressed the misinformation spreading on social media regarding the national costume she showcased during the 72nd Miss Universe event.
There were online rumors suggesting that Flores’ attire was taken from the changing area during the live show. In a discussion with El Universal, Flores dismissed the baseless allegations and confirmed that the colorful outfit was returned to the designer, Ángel Rámez.
“It’s an untrue report … nobody has pilfered it,” stated Flores. “I don’t know where the rumor originated. Once I had finished presenting the outfit on stage, it was retrieved and given back to the designer.”
The attire, titled “Los Colores de México: Guardiana Alebrije,” is valued at approximately $575,000 or about 1 million pesos. In the same interview, Flores mentioned that the outfit was created to depict the “colors, designs, culture, and traditions of Mexico.”
Miss Universe Mexico has been in the limelight recently. Last month, it was announced that Lupita Jones, a former Miss Universe, would no longer lead the organization. Jones was succeeded by Cynthia de la Vega, a former Miss Universe Mexico.
