After a brief hiatus, the immensely popular – and adored – telenovela, Yo soy Betty, la Fea, is returning to our screens. Today (May 8), Prime Video announced that the sequel, Betty the Unattractive, the Journey Continues, is set to premiere on July 19.
The new series picks up right where the original Colombian soap opera left off. After a series of episodes vying for the affection of her boss, Armando, Betty gets married in the finale and together they take the reins of the company while embracing their newborn daughter. Fast forward 20 years, and now, a “resilient and more perceptive Betty strives to mend her relationship with her teenage daughter, Mila, while her connection with Armando falters, making her question the decisions she made two decades ago,” as stated by the press release.
The upcoming series will see the return of the original main duo, Ana MarÃa Orozco as Betty, and Jorge Enrique Abello as Don Armando, alongside the core cast.
This telenovela holds the record for being the most successful soap opera in history as per Guinness World Records, spanning 335 episodes.
Beatriz Pinzón Solano (Betty) is an intelligent, albeit conventionally nerdy woman working as a secretary at Ecomoda, a prestigious and trend-setting company in Colombia. Despite her boss, Don Armando, constantly ridiculing Betty and mocking her looks to others, she falls for him. He initially shows little interest in Betty, even feigning attraction towards her, only to be ensnared by his own scheme and genuinely falling in love with her.
Yo soy Betty, la Fea has been aired in 180 countries, translated into 15 languages, and adapted in as many as 28 regions, including India, South Africa, and the United States. For more information, you can watch the teaser trailer below.
