Controversy erupted over Cardi B’s attendance at the 2024 Met Gala. The vocalist is being criticized for her incapacity to retrieve the name of her designer while walking the lush carpet earlier this week.

Prior to the uproar, Cardi B had already made a splash with her extravagant attire at the gala. Her expansive black gown required the assistance of approximately nine individuals to ascend the Met Gala staircase. Despite the attention-grabbing allure of her outfit, Cardi B overlooked mentioning the designer’s name when questioned by Vogue.

“I’m feeling amazing,” she exclaimed before being probed about the designer of her outfit. “It’s from this extraordinary designer. They are of Asian origin, so yeah.”

Public relations representative Gilbert Cheah was one of those who highlighted Cardi B’s failure to identify Sensen Lii, the architect of her gown.

“Just for the sake of credit and recognition, and not because of Cardi B, the creator of her gown is Sensen Lii, who hails from China,” Cheah wrote. “It took two months to craft the gown. Personally, I find it uninspired and off-topic, but she picked it and should have at least recollected his name rather than simply branding him as ‘Asian.’”

After Cheah’s comment went viral, Cardi B gave a shoutout to Sensen Lii on X. She stated, “I must give another shoutout to Windowsen by Sensen Lii!!! I chose you for your exceptional talent, and you truly made this Met Gala an unforgettable night.”

Many echoed Cheah’s sentiments, emphasizing the painstaking effort put in by designers collaborating with celebrities for their gala ensembles. It offers the designer a chance to gain recognition, especially with the media questioning them. “Cardi B’s failure to recall the designer who dedicated months to creating her Met Gala attire and simply labeling him as ‘Asian’ is disappointing and disrespectful,” one individual commented.

Nonetheless, some were inclined to sympathize with Cardi B for her memory lapse. Another individual remarked, “Forgetting someone’s name isn’t a sin. People like to nitpick over trivial matters.”

Cardi B tackled the issue through a video, revealing the stress she encountered while traversing the red carpet. “While I was on the carpet, I felt very anxious because the attire was supposed to be on a small platform, and I had been practicing how to pose on it. However, on the carpet, I was prevented from using the platform,” she elaborated. “So, I had a lot on my mind and was rushed ahead of the queue. Consequently, I accidentally skipped pronouncing the designer’s name due to its slightly complex nature… My mind was racing at that moment.”

She added, “I mentioned ‘Asian designer’ because I knew the designer was of Asian descent, but I wasn’t sure about the specific nationality… The designer and my stylist put in tremendous effort.” Cardi concluded by rebuking Cheah, highlighting that such actions undermine the collaborative efforts and dedication of all involved.
