After being impeached twice and facing various felony charges, former President Donald Trump has witnessed a surge in support from the Latine community, much to the displeasure of thespian John Leguizamo (The Menu), who fears this might pave the way for Trump’s resurgence to the White House in the upcoming election.
In a recent segment on The Daily Show, Leguizamo voiced his discontent over Trump’s lead among Latine voters as per a February 2024 survey by The New York Times/Siena College, where Trump stood at 46 percent compared to Biden’s 40 percent.
“It’s glaringly obvious that Trump is not exerting any effort to connect with Latino voters or address their issues,” noted Leguizamo. “What’s most discouraging is that his lackluster approach seems to be bearing fruit.”
The primary concern within the Latine community seems to revolve around the economy, with many expressing concerns about rising inflation and the escalating cost of living since Biden took office.
“Trump is being lauded for the economic circumstances pre-pandemic,” remarked Chris Jackson, a senior executive at Ipsos. A recent Ipsos poll revealed a decline in Biden’s approval among Hispanic voters, plunging from 53 percent to 41 percent during his presidency.
Exhibiting his enduring criticism of Trump, Leguizamo opted to vent his frustrations on a burro piñata concealed beneath his desk on the show. After pounding it a few times and releasing a string of choice expletives in Spanish, Leguizamo tore the piñata apart, only to discover it contained no confectionery. Note: April 18th is National Piñata Day.
“Do you genuinely think Trump has the remedy for inflation?” Leguizamo queried rhetorically. “Allow me to unequivocally state, hell madre f—ing no.”
