Prepare yourself for the humorous duo famously known as The Chonga Girls as they are all set to headline in their very own sitcom on CBS. According to Deadline, Mimi Davila and Laura Di Lorenzo will be stepping into the shoes of writers, leading stars, and co-executive producers for a multi-camera comedy series on CBS. Although the project’s official release date is yet to be confirmed.
The development of this series is spearheaded by Marlena Rodríguez, who will also be actively involved as a writer and executive producer. Joining Rodríguez in the production team are Wilmer Valderrama, Kaitlin Saltzman, and Al Madrigal serving as executive producers for the show.
The premise of The Chonga Girls focuses on the escapades of two lifelong pals, Mimi and Laura, as they migrate from Miami to Hollywood in pursuit of their dreams of stardom. Their journey unravels hilarious twists as they realize that fame doesn’t come easy and end up in a rather peculiar yet oddly fame-adjacent gig: working at the beauty counter of a store neighboring the famed Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Mimi Davila, a Cuban and Bulgarian descent comedian with exceptional talents, rose to fame alongside her dear friend Laura Di Lorenzo after their video sensation Chongalicious in 2007. She recently made an appearance in Julio Torres’ film Problemista. On the other hand, Di Lorenzo, a comedic artist hailing from Venezuela and based in Miami, is recognized for her contributions such as lending her voice to Selena Quintanilla’s tracks in the Netflix series Selena: The Series, and co-founding the online series The Chonga Diaries.
Both Davila and Di Lorenzo turned to their respective Instagram profiles to express their thrill, with Davila extending her appreciation to their supporters, mentioning, “We are deeply grateful to our fans, who have made it clear that this project transcends just us! While the road ahead is long, I am eagerly anticipating the journey! This is only the commencement!”
Di Lorenzo also took a moment to give credit to her partner Davila on Instagram, stating, “I am still processing the realization of this cherished dream after years of hard work with my dear friend @mimiluisadavila.” She further conveyed, “There is a substantial amount of groundwork to cover, but our excitement knows no bounds.”
