Breaking records seems to be one of Xavi’s strengths. The track “La Diabla”, by the young Mexican musician, has reportedly claimed the top position as the longest-running No. 1 solo song in the Latin category on Spotify’s Top 50 global chart, overthrowing Bad Bunny’s “MONACO.” Surprisingly, it continues to maintain its top spot as of today (Jan. 26).
In an exclusive interview with Remezcla, Xavi expressed his astonishment, stating, “I’m amazed. It’s certainly something I didn’t anticipate. I’m deeply thankful to everyone who has supported the music. This would not have been possible without them.”
“La Diabla,” which was originally released on Nov. 30, has caused quite a buzz this year. On Jan. 2, the emerging artist, who is based in Phoenix, AZ, saw his viral track secure the first No. 1 position of the year on Spotify’s Top 50 global chart. Consequently, he made history as the first Mexican artist to top the list with a solo track. This marks the fourth occasion that a Mexican music track has reached the No. 1 spot on Spotify. Other tracks achieving this feat include “Ella Baila Sola” by Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma, “Un 100xto” by Grupo Frontera featuring Bad Bunny, and the music session collaboration between Peso Pluma and Bizarrap.
Following Xavi’s rise to No. 1, other tracks on the current (Jan. 26) Top 50 global chart include “greedy” by Tate McRae (No. 2), “yes, and?” by Ariana Grande (No. 3), “Lovin On Me” by Jack Harlow (No. 4), and “One Of The Girls (with JENNIE and Lily-Rose Depp)” by The Weeknd, JENNIE, and Lily-Rose Depp (No. 5). Additional Latine tracks include “LUNA” by Feid and ATL Jacob (No. 10); “Igual Que Un Ángel” by Kali Uchis and Peso Pluma (No. 11); and “La Víctima” by Xavi (No. 12).
Furthermore, as of Jan. 25, “La Diabla” also holds the title of being the longest-running No. 1 hit of 2024 on the same global chart, surpassing Ariana Grande’s “yes, and?” which held the No. 1 position for nine days.
Roughly half of all música mexicana streams on Spotify are corridos. This genre has experienced a significant rise in popularity among Gen Z, with a 116 percent surge in corridos listenership over the last two years. Xavi’s upcoming projects include his debut appearance at a music festival in Chicago, IL. He is part of the upcoming Sueños 2024 lineup and is scheduled to perform on Sat., May 25. Also set to perform on that day are Rauw Alejandro, Ivan Cornejo, Young Miko, and Bizarrap.
