In observance of the 20th anniversary of an album that transformed the style for reggaeton, it will be accessible on vinyl for the very first time. Commemorating the achievement of Daddy Yankee’s Urban Chic hitting the 20-year milestone, the LP, in addition to five other of his albums, will be available for purchase.
On July 13, 2004, Daddy Yankee propelled reggaeton music into the spotlight with his third album Urban Chic. The LP showcases his popular tracks like “Gasolina,” which peaked at No. 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, “Lo Que Pasó, Pasó,” and “No Me Dejes Solo.” The impact of Urban Chic endures, with the album accumulating over 2.17 billion streams on Spotify. “Gasolina” remains one of Daddy Yankee’s most streamed songs on the platform, with over 925 million streams.
To mark the 20th anniversary of Urban Chic, Cinq Music will reveal the legendary album on vinyl for the first time. In homage to Daddy Yankee’s legacy in reggaeton, two of his earlier albums El Cangri.com and The Homeruns will be available on vinyl. The trio of LPs can be pre-ordered starting on Aug. 16. Prior to that, a Bhangra interpretation of “Gasolina” by Canadian artist Tesher will be released on July 26.
“Daddy Yankee is a musical pioneer who introduced an subterranean genre to the masses,” Barry Daffurn, the president and co-founder of Cinq Music, conveyed in a statement. “His success and the continuous evolution of the Reggaeton movement illustrate that music is unquestionably a global language. His worldwide influence endures today, and we are excited to partner with Tesher on his latest version, which marks the start of Cinq Music’s entry into the emerging Bhangra music sector.”
Three more of Daddy Yankee’s albums will be available on vinyl later this year, including The Cartel: The Big Boss, Talent of the Urban District, and Global. These will be released on Nov. 15. Keep an eye on Cinq’s social media platforms for further details on pre-orders and album acquisitions.
Following the conclusion of his Final Tour Around the World last year, Daddy Yankee revealed his plans to retire and explore a spiritual journey.
