Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, recognized as AOC, excited the crowd on Monday night (August 19) by appearing at the 2024 Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago to express her endorsement for Kamala Harris.
As she faced the audience, cries of “AOC!” resonated in the atmosphere. Ocasio-Cortez began her impactful discourse by reflecting on her previous role as a server in New York City just six years earlier.
“Health coverage was not something I possessed,” revealed Ocasio-Cortez about her life prior to becoming a Congressional representative. “My family grappled with the risk of losing our residence, and we wrestled with increasing bills after my father’s unexpected loss to cancer. Just like numerous Americans, we were simply seeking equity.”
She drew comparisons between her message of “optimism and ambition” and that of Harris, declaring that America is presented with “an extraordinary and valuable opportunity” to effect change on Election Day.
“[Kamala] grasps the immediacy of housing payments, groceries, and medications,” affirmed Ocasio-Cortez. “She is equally committed to protecting our reproductive and civil liberties as she is to challenging corporate greed, and she is steadfastly working to facilitate peace in Gaza and repatriate captives.”
Ocasio-Cortez then censured Donald Trump, alleging that he “would exchange this nation for a dollar if it meant serving his own interests and favoring his Wall Street allies.”
After Ocasio-Cortez’s concluding statements, CNN anchor Anderson Cooper remarked that she had “electrified the room.” On social media, she was lauded as “an emerging political figure.”
Her speech was even compared to Barack Obama’s speech at the 2004 DNC, which some believe propelled him towards his own presidential tenure four years later.
Could we see Ocasio-Cortez in The White House one day? If so, she would have a plethora of Americans supporting her.
