The contenders for the upcoming 2024 Television Academy Emmy Awards were revealed on Wednesday morning (July 17). This unveiling showcases a group of talented Latin performers being acknowledged for their exceptional work this year.
Sofia Vergara has clinched an Emmy nod for her outstanding performance in Griselda, earning a nomination for Lead Actress in a Limited Series. Within this series, Vergara takes on the role of Griselda Blanco, the infamous Colombian criminal mastermind who operated in Miami from the 1970s to the early 2000s.
Earlier in the year, Remezcla commended Vergara for her impressive “portrayal as the unrelenting crime figure, highlighting her versatile acting skills.”
This recognition marks Vergara’s fifth Emmy nomination in her illustrious career. In the past, she received four nods for her portrayal in the beloved sitcom Modern Family.
Selena Gomez has also been acknowledged, securing a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Only Murders in the Building. This represents Gomez’s first Emmy nomination as an actress, having previously been recognized as an executive producer for the series.

Liza Colón-Zayas has received a nod for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in The Bear, where she embodies the experienced chef Tina Marrero. This nomination marks Colón-Zayas’ premiere Emmy accolade.
Nava Mau also achieved a notable feat by becoming the first transgender nominee in the Limited Series category for her performance in Baby Reindeer. Portraying Teri, the transgender partner of the show’s protagonist Donny Dunn (Richard Gadd), a struggling comedian and bartender facing harassment from a mysterious woman at his bar.
Furthermore, among this year’s awardees are Issa López, nominated for Outstanding Directing in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her work on True Detective: Night Country featuring Jodie Foster; and Red, White, and Royal Blue for Outstanding Television Movie, a rom-com directed by Matthew López, with Taylor Zakhar Perez as the U.S. president’s son falling in love with a British prince, played by Nicholas Galitzine.
The 2024 Television Academy Emmys will be aired live on Sunday, September 15, on ABC at 8 p.m. EST, followed by streaming on Hulu the next day.
