It has been nearly a year since the boxer Ryan Garcia was hailed as a prominent figure in the world of sports. The esteemed Ring magazine had placed him in the top 5 active lightweights on a global scale last year. With an outstanding career record of 23-0, Garcia appeared to be on the rise. However, recent erratic social media updates have raised serious doubts about his condition.
The initial surprise came shortly after the arrival of his son on January 6th when Garcia revealed his split from Andrea Celina, the mother of his child. While he initially assured everyone about their co-parenting arrangement, a troubling six-second video, shared on March 3rd, showed Garcia claiming his throat had been injured.
Insights from Garcia’s inner circle painted a concerning picture. Celina mentioned that the boxer seemed troubled, expressing that he felt “overwhelmed” and confirming genuine worries about his well-being. Notably, even the British promoter Eddie Hearn admitted to being concerned about Garcia’s health.
In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Garcia tried to clarify the situation, suggesting that he was a victim of a malicious scheme. Despite his explanation, a series of increasingly strange videos and posts inundated Garcia’s social media both before and after his explanatory video.
Speaking directly to his audience in the video, Garcia stated, “Greetings everyone, it’s Ryan. I’m here to provide clarity on the current events. My phone is unreachable, Instagram access is restricted, and my cards are frozen. I am being exploited.”.
He continued, “I want to reassure my dear ones, supporters, and worried family members that I am secure. I am alive, trust in Jesus, and reject all unfounded claims.”
Ryan Garcia also revealed an attempt by an unidentified individual to frame him, emphasizing his unsuccessful pleas for help.
On April 20th, Garcia is set to face Devin Haney in a bid for the WBC super-lightweight championship.
