An outstanding record by a ballad legend will soon be available in vinyl format. Craft Latino recently revealed that Chalino Sánchez’s album Nieves De Enero will be obtainable on wax next month.
Before the rise of Peso Pluma, Natanael Cano, or Fuerza Regida, the original king of ballads was none other than Sánchez. After leaving Sinaloa, Mexico, for the United States, the Mexican singer became immersed in the realm of narcotics. Aside from popularizing ballads, he also brought visibility to narcoballads with his songs about drug traffickers. In May 1992, Sánchez made a poignant return to Sinaloa for his farewell show. Just before performing “Alma Enamorada,” he received a seemingly threatening message. The next day, Sánchez was tragically found shot dead. The mystery surrounding his murder persists.
Sánchez’s lasting impact as a pioneering figure in ballads lives on through his musical creations. One of his most revered albums is Nieves De Enero, released in 1992. This LP features his timeless tracks such as “Florita Del Alma,” “El Crimen De Culiacán,” and “Hermanos Mata.” Sánchez collaborated with Nacho Hernandez and Los Amables del Norte on this record.
Craft Latino will be releasing Nieves De Enero on vinyl on August 30 after more than three decades. The songs will be given an analog refurbishment. The vinyl version of Nieves De Enero by Craft Latino is currently available for pre-order on Discos Musart. There is also a limited edition “Smoky” hue variant of the vinyl, restricted to 300 copies. Furthermore, there is an option to purchase a bundle that includes a Nieves De Enero T-shirt.
Earlier this year, interest in Sánchez and his music peaked following Deadline’s announcement of an upcoming biopic about his life. Allegedly, Mexican-American actor David Castañeda has been chosen to portray the ballad icon.
