Nelly Furtado has made a comeback in the world of Latin music alongside a familiar partner in music. The celebrated Canadian artist has once again teamed up with Colombian singer Juanes for their touching music video titled “Gala y Dalí,” which made its debut today (Mar. 29).
Back in 2002, Furtado ventured into the realm of Latin music for the first time with Juanes, collaborating on the hit song “Fotografía” from Juanes’ album Un Día Normal. Their musical journeys crossed paths once more in 2006 with the release of “Te Busqué” from Furtado’s album Loose. She is excited to join forces with him once again for her latest release.
Speaking about their musical connection, Furtado shared, “Juanes and I share a special musical chemistry. Our voices blend effortlessly, creating a truly magical fusion. Every collaboration with him feels natural and seamless. In many ways, ‘Gala y Dalí’ commemorates over 20 years since the launch of our first song ‘Fotografía’ together.”
In the song “Gala y Dalí,” known for hits like “Maneater,” blends reggaeton beats with tropical Latin pop. Their enchanting ballad tells a love story inspired by the relationship between Spanish artist Salvador Dalí and Gala, his wife. The duo honors their heritage by extending warm invites to their loved ones in both Canada and Medellín, Colombia.
Expressing his excitement to work with Nelly again, Juanes said, “Nelly’s collaboration brings me great joy. With this song, she leads me into a realm of joy and brightness that allows me to explore beyond my typical guitar sound, moving into a more Caribbean, dance-friendly realm that aligns perfectly with Nelly’s vision for this track.”
The music video for “Gala y Dalí” showcases Furtado and Juanes in the recording studio. Towards the end, they share a heartfelt moment as Furtado reveals an old photograph from their time together at the 2002 ALMA Awards. Recently, Furtado revisited “Fotografía” by performing it alongside Juanes at his concert in Toronto earlier this month.
