Iconic Mexican actor Fernando Almada passed away at the age of 94 on Monday, October 30. The Asociación Nacional de Actores (ANDA), Mexico’s National Actors Association, announced Almada’s death on social media. The cause of his death was not disclosed.
The Instagram post from ANDA read, “The National Actors Association deeply regrets the passing of our colleague Fernando Almada, a member of our union. Our condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. Rest in peace.”
Born on February 26, 1929, in Mexico City, Almada began his career in the 1959 drama Milagros de San Martín de Porres. Throughout his career, he starred in over 150 movies, including Nido de Águilas, Todo El Horizonte Para Morir, and La Banda del Carro Rojo, with many of them falling under the Western genre. He also collaborated with his brother Mario Almada, who passed away in 2016 at the same age of 94.
In addition to acting, Almada also wrote, directed, and produced films. One of his notable works is the 1978 crime adventure El Hechizo del Pantano, which he wrote and directed. His last on-screen appearance was in the 2003 action movie La Viuda de Chihuahua.

Many actors, friends, and fans took to social media to pay tribute to Almada. Actress Sonia Velestri (El Corrido de los Perez) described him as “a great human being” and “an icon of national cinema,” expressing her gratitude for his support and affection.
A fan of the Almada brothers’ films highlighted their contribution to Mexican narratives, especially at a time when they were not widely represented. They stated, “Los Hermanos Almada brought to life stories of vulnerable and nefarious [characters]. In our time, complicated to say the least, for me – always be special.”
