MAABELLE is showcasing a different aspect of her artistic expression this year. The talented performer – widely known as Michelle González (star of Mi Tío and Mi fortuna es amarte) – has revealed her latest captivating music video for the enticing pop song “Etiqueta Negra,” premiering exclusively on Remezcla today (Jan. 29).

In an interview with Remezcla, MAABELLE discusses her shift from acting to singing, stating, “Reconnecting with music has enabled me to reclaim my strength, believe in myself, and acknowledge myself as the fully-fledged artist that I am.”

She further expresses, “Venturing into music not only signifies realizing my greatest aspiration and pursuing my passion, but also confronting the fears and uncertainties that hindered me for so long – leading to various obstacles and emotional voids. [Creating music is also] a form of healing, personal development, and striving to be my optimal self. I have a purpose and a life mission, and today, it’s clearer to me than ever.”

“Etiqueta Negra” embodies a sultry, Afrobeat-infused ambiance with an overall ethereal aura. The mellow rhythm complementing her crystalline and airy vocals perfectly augments MAABELLE’s bold lyrics about being entranced by a lover. While the lyrics were sparked by MAABELLE manifesting “magical and powerful” chemistry for her next romantic relationship, the visuals convey a deeper message. The music video also depicts an underrepresented LGBTQ+ love story and the confidence of embracing one’s true self.

In a visual directed by Tonatiuh Martínez, the new music video explores closeness and sensuality between two women. The frames illustrate MAABELLE radiating passion toward actress Mara López, who aids her in portraying a tender, queer love and loss narrative on screen. Throughout the scenes, we witness MABELLE’s unwavering devotion to loving someone until they, unfortunately, depart for the afterlife. As an artist, she underscores the importance of utilizing her platform and voice “to bring attention to subjects that unfortunately remain taboo,” clarifying her decision to feature a woman as her partner.

In addition to using her musical platform to defy societal norms, she also perceives it as a way to foster self-confidence. “For the longest time, I viewed my body as an adversary, unable to withstand the attention and stares,” she reveals about her journey toward self-acceptance. “[Now], I have learned to reconcile with the perceptions of others, my own self-perception, and my true essence.”

Looking forward, MAABELLE is preparing for a fresh musical era in 2024. For this phase, she’s taking a hands-on approach, gaining knowledge step by step as an independent artist – from composing her own music to managing her own project and serving as her own creative director.
