What greater approach for Lupillo Rivera to commemorate his birthday than by paying tribute to his deceased sister, Jenni Rivera, with a special debut. Yesterday (Jan. 29), the Mexican-American vocalist unleashed an updated variation of their duet “Que Me Entierren Cantando” featuring vocals from Jenni.
Acknowledged as “La Diva de La Banda,” Jenni Rivera left her mark in the música mexicana genre as its leading female artist. Tragically, her life came to an end on Dec. 9, 2012, in a plane crash in Mexico. To honor Lupillo’s birthday today, Jenni’s estate introduced their collaborative track “Que Me Entierren Cantando.” Initially popularized by Ramón Ayala, the song centers on celebrating an individual posthumously, and has been covered by the late Chalino Sánchez and the Rivera siblings.
Jenni and Lupillo Rivera’s original recording of “Que Me Entierren Cantando” dates back to 2000. Their banda rendition of the song was featured on Jenni’s album Que Me Entierren Cantando Con La Banda. The 2024 rendition aligns more closely with Ayala’s iconic norteño version. Jenni and Lupillo devote themselves to the track, advocating for a celebration of their passing rather than mourning. The emotions conveyed through the duet are especially touching today, as Lupillo raises a toast to Jenni over a decade since her passing. The single’s cover art features a photo of Jenni embracing Lupillo just days before the tragedy occurred.
Previously, Jenni Rivera’s estate unveiled her posthumous ultimate album, Misión Cumplida. The endeavor to bring the LP to realization and release it was led by her children—Chiquis, Jacqie, Jenicka, Mike, and Johnny. Chiquis and Jacqie also contributed to the album by recording a duet with their mother for the track “Pedacito de Mí.” Currently, Lupillo Rivera is a participant on the reality series La Casa de Los Famosos. The show’s fourth season began on Jan. 23 on Telemundo.
