Liza Colon-Zayas has established herself as a prominent figure in the industry after winning an Emmy. The talented Puerto Rican actress emerged victorious in a competitive category that included illustrious names such as Carol Burnett for Palm Royale, Hannah Einbinder for Hacks, Janelle James and Sheryl Lee Ralph for Abbott Elementary, and Meryl Streep for Only Murders in the Building. Colon-Zayas earned her first Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in The Bear during the 2024 Emmy Awards.
This marked Colon-Zayas’s first Emmy nomination. Importantly, The Bear is recognized as the comedy series with the most nominations in Emmy history.
In The Bear, Colon-Zayas plays Tina Marrero, a character who evolves from a struggling cook at a failing restaurant to a culinary school graduate who ultimately becomes the sous chef.
While the show recently premiered its third season, the current Emmy nominations pertain to the show’s second season, which aired in 2023. Consequently, Colon-Zayas is not yet nominated for her memorable performance in the third-season episode titled “Napkins.” Nevertheless, she will be eligible for nomination at next year’s Emmy Awards.
