The buzz surrounding Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has been steadily growing ever since the initial sneak peek unveiled Jenna Ortega’s debut in the production and the return of Michael Keaton as the primary ethereal figure. The most recent trailer for the movie finally grants audiences a deeper look into how Astrid Deetz, portrayed by Ortega, will seize the spotlight in the sequel.

In Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the spotlight shifts to Astrid, the daughter of Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder), as she seems to be trapped in the afterlife, leading her mother to once again enlist Beetlejuice’s aid in bringing her back. While the trailer invokes sentiments of nostalgia, Ortega’s portrayal of Astrid sets her apart by emphasizing the transformations that have occurred.

The trailer kicks off with Astrid exhibiting a dark sense of humor reminiscent of her mother’s, as she confronts school bullies trying to pull a prank on her, all the while enduring her mother’s cringeworthy antics. It becomes evident that while Lydia has always embodied the gloomy style, Astrid leans more towards rationality and doubt, shrugging off the idea of ghosts. Notably, she has her mother listed in her phone as “Presumed Mother” before declining the call.

Subsequent scenes delve into the plot further, depicting Astrid navigating the afterlife, discovering hidden spectral sites like a ghostly train station and a church. Amid her challenges, a enigma unravels as she finds herself dressed in a wedding gown, possibly hinting at a connection with Beetlejuice once more.

Later on, the trailer presents Ortega’s Astrid and her mother in the same desert inhabited by the sandworms from the original film. Additionally, Ortega partakes in a brief musical number alongside Catherine O’Hara’s Delia Deetz while seated on a church pew in her bridal ensemble.

The most recent Beetlejuice Beetlejuice trailer illustrates how Ortega’s character pays homage to memorable scenes from the franchise. More than that, Astrid Deetz distinguishes herself by infusing a new angle into the persona originally carried by Lydia Deetz.

Witness Jenna Ortega in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice exclusively in theaters commencing September 6, 2024.
