In early January 2024, Chávez Jr. stirred controversy by accusing his father, Julio César Chávez Sr, a legendary figure in Mexican boxing history, of mistreatment. The allegations involved physical abuse against his mother, Amalia Carrasco, and claims of being “illegally treated.”Confined in a facility for care” and “held against his will for a period of three years.”
The former boxer went as far as suggesting that his father was trying to do away with him and begged for him to be put behind bars.
Just a matter of days later, Chávez Jr. himself was arrested for possessing the illegal rifle, which law enforcement authorities referred to as an untraceable “shadow gun.”
Julio César Chávez Sr. released a statement confirming his son’s arrest and stating that they are “working with his legal representatives” and that he hopes this marks the moment that pushes his son towards “a meaningful and joyful life.”
