Bad Gyal has received an unparalleled nod of approval for her rapidly developing career thus far. Today (May 23), the rising Spanish songbird released the visual accompaniment for the “Perdió” Remix, showcasing her synergy with the revered Puerto Rican icon, Ivy Queen.
The vocalist from Barcelona captured the global spotlight last year through Karol G’s invitation to lend her voice on the song “Kármika,” which also featured the famed artist from Jamaica, Sean Paul. Bad Gyal secured further endorsements from her contemporaries in the urban music domain when Young Miko and Tokischa joined her for “Chulo Pt. 2.” Advancing on this trajectory, she is engaging in a partnership with Ivy Queen, a pioneer who has paved the way for women in reggaeton.
“Welcoming Ivy, an artist of immeasurable importance to me, aboard the ‘Perdió’ remix has been an incredible journey,” Bad Gyal declared. “Ivy represents an emblematic figure for those of my generation. It’s mesmerizing to see how my work can resonate with and inspire an artist of her caliber.”
“Perdió” is an updated rendition of Bad Gyal’s initial song “Perdió Este Culo.” In this dancehall-infused number, she asserts her path to a better life, devoid of her previous romantic entanglement. Ivy Queen amplifies the reggaeton beat that she navigates with such adeptness, enhancing Bad Gyal’s defiant liberation track with her powerful vocal presence. The remix is made even more compelling with Ivy Queen’s addition.
“I am of the opinion that [Ivy Queen’s] stanza infuses the piece with a fresh dynamism,” added Bad Gyal. “It elevates it to a new echelon. Her presence always brings power! She is the only artist who could elevate this song to its loftiest potential.”
The visual for “Perdió” was orchestrated by Stillz, a visionary who has orchestrated projects for prominent figures like Bad Bunny and Rosalía. The styling in the video, reminiscent of the early aughts, sees Bad Gyal and Ivy Queen shimmering as though draped in jewels. Bad Gyal’s latest album “La Joia” made its debut in January and boasts a cast of contributors such as Myke Towers, Anitta, Quevedo, Ñengo Flow, and Tommy Lee Sparta.
