Former Leader Donald Trump engendered controversy with a declaration concerning what he called “employment for African Americans and Hispanics” during a recent Presidential Debate.
Throughout the debate, Trump left his comment unclarified. As the controversial moment unfolded while discussing unauthorized immigration, Trump proceeded to assert that “immigrants admitted by President [Joe] Biden have taken the jobs meant for African Americans and Hispanics.”
Backlash on social platforms was immediate, with the NAACP inquiring: “Exactly what constitutes as African American and Hispanic Jobs!?!”
Many echoed this sentiment:
To the bewildered, “what are these particular roles that we supposedly have the exclusive right to?”
Condemnation also targeted the moderators, who didn’t confront these assertions, with critics decrying: “I am thoroughly frustrated with moderators like these who offer no comment about ‘jobs for African Americans’ and ‘Hispanic jobs.’”
And ridicule ensued regarding the moderators’ proceeding as if nothing significant had occured following Trump’s remarks.
Moreover, some commentators pointed out Trump’s consistent targeting of disadvantaged populations. “The former president stating that unauthorized migrants are ‘taking jobs from African Americans & Hispanics’ & then referring to ‘Blacks’ in the next breath is repulsive. The aversion Trump shows towards marginalized communities, INCLUDING immigrants, is vile.”
Another Presidential Debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump is scheduled later before the election. Hosted by ABC, it is planned for Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 9 p.m. ET.
