There have been rumors circulating about Melissa Barrera’s departure from Scream 7. The revelation of this information was corroborated by The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday, November 21st. Allegedly, she was ousted from the project “following a series of social media posts post the Israel-Hamas War.”
Having previously portrayed Sam Carpenter, the unrecognized descendant of Billy Loomis in the last two Scream movies, Barrera was all set to enact her character again alongside her on-screen sibling Tara Carpenter, enacted by Jenna Ortega (widely acknowledged for her portrayal in Wednesday), in the seventh installment of the horror franchise.
The artist has been outspoken in demonstrating support for Palestine on different social media platforms, with her latest Instagram post advocating for a cessation in Gaza. In one of her posts, she expressed, “Gaza is presently being treated like a concentration camp,” and in another, she proclaimed, “We must put an end to the bombing of Gaza, ensure the safe release of all captives, and demand sufficient access for humanitarian aid to reach the individuals that are in dire need of it.” Furthermore, she affirmed, “THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING.”
There are theories circulating online that a recent Instagram Stories update from Barrera hints at her expulsion from Scream 7. The post on Instagram displayed a sign stating, “Ultimately, I prefer to be excluded for whom I include, as opposed to being included for whom I exclude.”
