Emmy winner Colman Domingo is taking on the role of Batman in a new audio series. Although he won’t physically wear the cowl and cape, Domingo will voice the iconic caped crusader in an upcoming Spotify limited series titled “The Riddler: Secrets in the Dark.”
The series will also feature the voices of Hasan Minhaj as The Riddler and Gina Rodriguez as Barbara Gordon, creating a diverse Bat-family. Other actors such as Jason Isaacs, Calum Worthy, Hannah Simone, Peyton Crim, and Hugh Scott will also be part of the audio series.
In “The Riddler: Secrets in the Dark,” Domingo’s Batman reluctantly teams up with Minhaj’s Riddler to track down a masked vigilante in Gotham City. The irony of a masked vigilante seeking another masked vigilante’s help alongside a villain is not lost on the characters.
Before his role as Batman, Domingo will be seen in the historical drama “Rustin,” premiering on Netflix on November 17th. The film focuses on Bayard Rustin, a leader in civil rights, nonviolence, and gay rights movements, specifically highlighting Rustin’s involvement in organizing the March on Washington in 1963.
“Rustin” has already generated early Oscar buzz for Domingo, and while his role as Batman in “The Riddler: Secrets in the Dark” may not have the same level of prominence, it provides fans with an opportunity to hear Domingo step into a role that could potentially be his in live-action in the future.
Earlier this year, Mexican actor Alfonso Herrera voiced Batman in the Spanish-language version of the “Batman Unearthed” podcast, where Batman battles his most terrifying adversaries.
