CoComelon Introduces A Bilingual Spin Off: Nina’s Familia

CoComelon, the popular YouTube channel for children’s entertainment, has launched a new spinoff series called Nina’s Familia. The show revolves around the character Nina Reyes and her Latine family, making it the channel’s first bilingual program.

Nina was initially introduced in 2019 as JJ’s classmate and friend in CoComelon. Now, she stars in her own show, which includes three-minute songs and nursery rhymes.

Anthony Falcón, the creative lead, expressed his excitement about Nina’s Familia, stating, “It’s the kind of series I’ve always wanted to be a part of but is so rarely seen.” He added that the show portrays an intelligent, caring, and adventurous Mexican-American girl who is supported by a strong Latine family. Falcón emphasized that this is the type of content he wants to create for his daughters, nieces, and nephews.

The spin-off incorporates Spanish in many episodes and highlights culturally significant narratives and themes such as Día de Muertos and Noche Buena Christmas.

Children will have the opportunity to listen to Spanish-language nursery rhymes, including “Pin Pon es un Muñeco,” “Chuchuwa,” and “Estrellita Dónde Estás” (the Spanish version of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”).

Falcón described Nina’s home as a lively place filled with laughter, love, Latine traditions, Mexican cooking, Spanish language, and, most importantly, familia. He stated that the goal of Nina’s Familia is to provide representation for Latine kids while sharing Nina’s family’s culture with the world.

Nina’s Familia will premiere on September 29, 2023, on the CoCoMelon YouTube channel, with new episodes releasing weekly.
