Christina Aguilera has politely declined to be part of Britney Spears’ upcoming memoir. Given the controversial topics already revealed in The Woman in Me, such as an abortion and Justin Timberlake cheating on Britney, it’s understandable why Aguilera would want to distance herself.
During an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Aguilera discussed Spears’ memoir while promoting her new Vegas residency. The conversation initially focused on Aguilera’s Halloween decorations and her show in Las Vegas.
When asked if she would choose to be included in the memoir, Aguilera took the high road. She expressed her hope for Spears’ well-being and said, “I think the future should be celebrated.” However, there was a slightly uncomfortable exchange with Kimmel, where Aguilera questioned if he was being serious.
It’s likely that Aguilera, like many of us, knows she will likely be mentioned in Spears’ memoir. The two singers have a history dating back to their time on The Mickey Mouse Club in the 1990s and were often compared to each other as they launched their pop careers. They also famously performed with Madonna at the VMAs.
In later years, Aguilera showed support for Spears during her conservatorship battle, and their relationship appeared to have improved. However, Spears made body-shaming comments about Aguilera, causing her to unfollow Spears on Instagram. Although Spears later clarified her comments, tensions have remained between them.
Britney Spears’ memoir will be released on October 24th.
