Recently, Chiquis encountered an exceptionally heartbreaking event, prompting the postponement of a concert. This previous weekend, the singer of Mexican-American heritage openly disclosed that she and her partner Emilio Sanchez faced the devastating loss of their forthcoming baby.
Last week, Chiquis, daughter of the late banda music icon Jenni Rivera, embarked on the U.S. leg of her Diamantes Tour. She successfully executed the first show of the tour on May 30 in El Cajon, CA.
Before her next scheduled show in Albuquerque, NM, Chiquis turned to Instagram to post an emotional video that shed light on why the June 1st event was postoned. During the video, she revealed suffering a miscarriage while preparing for the show. The clip also sowed the pair smiling next to an ultrasound of the unborn baby.
“With substantial heaviness, I need to inform you that the abrupt deferment of my show was owing to a dire health matter which made it impossible for me to go on stage, in both a physical and emotional sense,” Chiquis expressed in the video. “At the venue, during my pre-show routine, I experienced a miscarriage. We had chosen to keep the pregnancy under wraps as it was in the very initial stages.”
In May 2023, Chiquis announced her engagement to Sanchez, a photographer. The baby they sadly lost would have been their very first together. According to her statement, the couple wished to hold off on publicizing the pregnancy until it was more established. Her candidness about experiencing a miscarriage has drawn outpourings of empathy, with many women sharing their parallel experiences and extending condolences to Chiquis. On his part, Sanchez expressed his sorrow over the tragic loss by posting icons of an angelic baby with a broken heart on his Instagram stories.
Chiquis is set to resume her Diamantes Tour on June 7 in Hidalgo, TX. Correspondingly, on May 30, she introduced her latest musical album, also named Diamantes.
