Having crafted numerous extensive partnerships, Jasiel Nuñez is pushing ahead with his unique style. The emerging singer-songwriter from Mexico recently unveiled the third single from his highly anticipated album, “Bien High,” which was exclusively premiered on Remezcla on Aug. 8.
Originating from Guadalajara, Mexico, the artist is renowned for his impactful collaborations with Mexican music icons such as “BIPOLAR” featuring Junior H and Peso Pluma, “LAGUNAS” with Peso Pluma, and “GTA” featuring Luis R Conriquez – all tracks penned by Nuñez himself. Through these collaborative efforts, the vocalist has showcased his skills in songwriting and singing, qualities that will be further displayed in his upcoming album set for release in the fall season.
Despite his extensive contributions to various tracks, Nuñez is now shining a spotlight on his solo endeavors. The song “Bien High” demonstrates his evolution in sound by integrating a piano with a jazzy vibe along with his conventional requinto guitar and tololoche bass notes. Another unique aspect is Nuñez’s use of high-pitched vocals delivered in a rap-infused style, distinguishing him from his contemporaries. By merging these elements, the musician offers a fresh and enthralling perspective on Mexican music, enriched with piano harmonies that transcend the typical regional Mexican tunes.
In discussing his exploration of diverse musical genres, Nuñez expressed to Remezcla via email, “Expanding my musical horizons is crucial as it’s all about progress and engaging with a wider audience… It’s about breaking barriers and displaying the fusion of tradition and modernity. Each genre I delve into introduces a new layer to my artistry, and this variety helps me stay true while continuously evolving.”
Not only does Nuñez infuse “a more cinematic and imaginative approach” into the composition of the song, but he also mirrors this sentiment in the accompanying visuals. The music video, directed by Gerardo Huerta and John Rodriguez, chronicles the singer’s journey through a five-part narrative conveying a profound message. These visuals immerse us in his artistic world, transitioning from a whimsical library ambiance to his guitar performance set against a desert landscape.
Elaborating on the visual concept, he mentioned, “We drew inspiration from the realm of theater, infusing a laid-back yet artistic touch that echoes the dramatic and expressive elements seen in theatrical productions. This fusion of storytelling and theatrical aesthetics creates a remarkable and captivating journey – a five-part saga that encapsulates the emotions and narrative we sensed within the music.”
The release of “Bien High” follows Nuñez’s earlier singles “Made in Paris” and “0 Sentimientos.” Through this latest track, Nuñez offers his audience a sneak peek into the album’s “expanded outlook” that merges genres and explores new creative avenues.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming album, he declared, “I’ve poured my heart and soul into each piece, aiming to push boundaries while staying true to my roots. Anticipate a plethora of surprises, compelling narratives, and innovative sounds. I am excited for fans to immerse themselves in the diverse spectrum this album embodies.”
