It has been confirmed that the next part of the well-liked HBO show The Last of Us, featuring Pedro Pascal, is set for release in 2025.
As a sneak peek for the network’s forthcoming programs in 2024 and 2025, The Last of Us was scheduled for the latter year, along with other shows like The White Lotus, Euphoria, And Just Like That…, and Welcome to Derry. The sneak peek clip for The Last of Us showed a scene where Joel, played by Pascal, battles a clicker and has an intimate moment with Bella Ramsey’s Ellie. Ellie can also be heard saying, “We finish what we started.”
Despite HBO’s previous announcement about the show’s second season in 2025, fans have expressed concerns due to ongoing labor conflicts in Hollywood this year.
According to a report from Variety, production for season 2 is expected to start in February 2024 in Canada. Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, confirmed that the strike had indeed caused delays in the production of the second season.
There is current speculation around how closely the second season will follow the storyline of the video game sequel. Showrunner Craig Mazin revealed that the team was able to “outline the entire second season” before the strike began, but production was subsequently delayed.
Mazin expressed his disappointment, stating, “It’s now increasingly unlikely that we’ll be able to begin [filming] as initially planned, which is disheartening. We’re all eager to get started. This is our calling. This is not just how we choose to live but, I believe, how we’re compelled to live. Otherwise, why on earth would we pursue this daunting profession? I can guarantee it’s not for the money.”
Remezcla praised the first season as “compelling” and depicted Joel and Ellie as the “driving force” of the series.
