At this time of support for Gaza and Sudan, performers are coming together to raise aid. Mustafa, an artist and songwriter from Sudan, has revealed a concert fundraiser benefiting Human Concern International, an organization providing humanitarian support to Gaza and Sudan. The program is set to occur at the Newark Symphony Hall in Newark, NJ on Jan. 4.
In a recent online announcement, Mustafa expressed his dedication to the cause, stating, “We have put in tremendous effort to make this event happen, but our exhaustion is insignificant compared to what we aim to sing for.” Formerly known as Mustafa the Poet, he also conveyed his personal ties with the art communities in Sudan and Palestine, highlighting how the turmoil in both areas shattered the hopes of the people.
He further remarked, “Through this concert, those aspirations are reignited for me in some way. The fundamental purpose remains unaltered, as on this evening, we lend our voices to magnify theirs.” In closing, he conveyed thanks to the participating artists for their commitment and swift response to participate in the event.
The “Artists for Aid: Gaza & Sudan Benefit Concert” will highlight skilled Latin performers such as Omar Apollo, an R&B vocalist of Mexican-American heritage, Nicolas Hakim, an R&B artist from Chile and Peru, and 070 Shake, a rapper with roots in the Dominican Republic and the United States. The roster also includes Clairo, Daniel Caesar, Charlotte Day Wilson, Faye Webster, and 6LACK. The program will also present Palestinian writer and poet Mohammed el-Kurd, with additional surprise guest appearances to be unveiled soon.
Tickets for the fundraiser are priced at $150 (excluding fees) and will be accessible for purchase from tomorrow, Dec. 19, at 12 p.m. EST. The proceeds from the concert will be contributed to Human Concern International, an organization Mustafa describes as a long-serving partner, with whom he has been affiliated for a decade.
