Notices regarding the nominations for the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards were revealed earlier today on August 6. Among the contenders are Rauw Alejandro, Bad Bunny, Anitta, Karol G, and several other Latine artists.
This year, the most standout Latine musicians are Anitta and Rauw Alejandro. Anitta, the popular Brazilian artist, grabbed three nominations. She received dual nods in the category of Best Latin for her songs “Mil Veces” and her collaboration “Bellakeo” with Mexican singer Peso Pluma. Furthermore, the former track is also vying for the Best Editing accolade. On the flip side, Rauw Alejandro bagged three nominations for his visually appealing music video “Touching the Sky.” He is a contender for the Best Latin, Best Cinematography, and Best Choreography categories.
Following closely behind Anitta and Rauw is Bad Bunny, who snagged two nominations. He is in the running for the Artist of the Year honor alongside Ariana Grande, Eminem, Sabrina Carpenter, SZA, and Taylor Swift. Bad Bunny’s video for “Monaco” is also competing in the Best Latin category. The rest of the nominees in the Best Latin category feature more global hits. Karol G is a contender for her Selena-inspired track “Mi Ex Tenía Razón.” The songs “Puntería” by Shakira and Cardi B and “LaLa” by Myke Towers are also vying for the Best Latin award.
Other noteworthy Latine contenders include the Mexican rock group The Warning, nominated in the MTV Push Performance of the Year segment for their rendition of “Automatic Sun.” Camila Cabello, a Cuban-Mexican singer who dropped her album C,XOXO in June, is the sole Latina nominee in the Best Pop category.
The artist leading in nominations this year is Taylor Swift, boasting an impressive 10 nods. Another highly esteemed nominee is Lisa from BLACKPINK, securing four nominations. Earlier today, Lisa revealed her plans to release her new single “New Woman” with past VMA winner Rosalía on August 15.
